Distance Learning Assignments

Once a scholar is OFFICIALLY ENROLLED in ECTS 501 at CSUSB, all assignments must be completed before the end of that quarter. Please work through all of the assignments listed below as quickly as possible. The instructor may wait until he has received several assignments before responding, so please keep sending assignments in, even if you don't hear back from the instructor right away (usually within one week).

PLEASE NOTE that no specific due dates have been indicated for any of the assignments, BUT that the instructor highly encourages everyone to work through all of the assignments as quickly as possible to avoid stress (to all concerned) that results from putting things until the last minute. Scholars who are able to complete all of the assignments before the fifth week of the quarter are encouraged to request "additional credit" for that "remarkable achievement".

ALSO NOTE that the number of "points possible" for each assignment and the number of "total points" needed to earn an "A" grade are no longer indicated ! When responding to each assignment, the instructor will simply indicate either "FULL CREDIT" or will indicate "REDO" and will provide specific suggestions for what needs to be re-done in order to earn "FULL CREDIT". Anyone who earns "FULL CREDIT" on all of the assignments will have met all required criteria to earn an "A" grade for the course! Anyone who earns less than full credit will have the opportunity to upgrade to full credit. So it is important to get all of the assignments done as quickly as possible and to "REDO" any and all assignments that the instructor indicates need to be redone. In one of the of the last assignments, you will be asked to indicate what grade you believe you have earned for the course. If you have completed and earned FULL CREDIT on all of the assignments, simply stating that fact will earn you the "A" grade that almost everyone aspires to. If you have not completed and earned full credit on all of the assignment you will need to request a lessor grade and explain why you believe you have earned that grade!

Upon entry into the Designated Subjects Credential program credential candidates will be asked to declare their credential as either Designated Subjects Adult Education (DS AE) or Designated Subjects Career and Technical (DS CTE) and will develop andragogical or pedagogical strategies and methods for teaching and relative to their specific student demographics. Candidates will explore the difference between how adults and adolescents interact, the most effective learning environments, and classroom management strategies for each age group. Everyone who completes this course successfully is expected to be able to differentiate between andragogical and pedagogical applications relative to the target audience they teach.

It is recommended that you acquire a copy of - Teaching English Language Learners in Career and Technical Education Programs as there will be assignments from all of the ECTS DS credentialing courses that reference this textbook.

It is also recommended to work on completing the assignments in the order they are listed below, to send in each assignment as soon as it is completed and to work at a pace that will enable completion of all assignments at least two weeks before the end of the quarter.

Please complete and send the first four assignments to the instructor not later than the first week of the quarter that you are officially enrolled in the ECTS 501 course.
