Discussion Question for Chpt 6 – Lecture 8  (no separate question for Lec 7)

 

Analyze a local environmental issue (real or imaginary) using cost-benefit analysis.

 

Conservation, Preservation, or Restoration of degraded natural resource

Examples:  building a new road or bike path, purchasing a parcel of land for a nature preserve, or instituting a campus recycling program

The smaller, more local the issue the better (and the easier it will be for you to do)

Use the proposed solution, or your own if a proposed solution doesn’t exit

 

List all COSTS and BENEFITS involved in the problem and solution

 

Be sure to indicate whether each one listed would be measured as a “Use Value” (direct and indirect), “Option Value”,  “Existence Value”, or “Bequest Value”.

Which ones can be priced ® using what techniques

How will you value FUTURE benefits and costs?

 

PREPARE on one page (and make transparency to share with class)

Determine what techniques could be used to give them a dollar value
